Installing Netmonitor on Wordpress

Using the Netmonitor plugin

The easiest way to install Netmonitor on a wordpress blog or site is to use the Netmonitor plugin. The plugin is available in the wordpress plugin directory and automatically takes care of adding the tag to your pages. It can even be set up to add extra parameters to the tag to track pages using the title as well as tracking logged-in users.

Installation process

There are two ways of installing the plugin, if you are using a newer version (> 3.0) of Wordpress you can install the it automatically through the admin interface, otherwise you can download it from the plugin directory and install it manually.

Automatic installation

  1. In your Wordpress admin interface, go to the plugins subsection
  2. Click the “Add new” button on the top of the page
  3. In the search box, type 'netmonitor' (without the quotes) and you should be presented with a table containing Netmonitor plugin with a link named 'Install now'. Go ahead and click that.
  4. You should now see a page saying 'Successfully installed the plugin Netmonitor Plugin'. If so, then you're done! You can now skip to configuring the plugin.

Manual installation

  1. In your wordpress admin interface, go to the plugins subsection
  2. Click the “Add new” button on the top of the page
  3. Click the Browse or Choose file button, select the zip file you got in step one and then click 'Install now'.
  4. You should now see a page saying 'Plugin installed successfully'. You can now skip to configuring the plugin.

Configuring the plugin

Before the plugin starts working you need to activate it and set up some basic settings for it. This can be done in a few easy steps as follows.

  1. Go to the plugin section in your admin inteface and check if the plugin is activated. If it isn't, click the 'Activate' link under the plugin name.
  2. Now go click settings, you should find a link called 'Netmonitor' here, click that.
  3. You are now presented with the Netmonitor settings page, add your site-id in the box titled site-id, choose if you want to track page names and/or users and click save.
  4. You're done! Stats should now start appearing in your Netmonitor account.

Finding your site-id

The site id used in the plugin is the number in the tracking tag that lets Netmonitor know which site the statistics concern. To find your site id you can log in to netmonitor and go to get tag, the site id is the number enclosed in the parenthesis in the call var netmonitor = new nmTracker(*some number*); So you can just copy the number from here.
