In order to gather statistics from your website, you need to install a small piece of HTML code (the “tag” or the “tracker”) on all the pages that you want to monitor. To get more meaningful results, we recommend that you install it on every pages of your website.

Getting the tracker code

The tracker code is different for every site (or account) that you want to monitor. If you put the same code on multiple sites, your statistics will be mixed up. You can get the tracker code in many places in Netmonitor.

  • If no statistics have been received, a message will be displayed warning you that the tracker is probably not installed. This message contains a link that will display the tracker code.
  • At any time, you can go to your start page and click the “Get tag” link. Your start page is the page that display all your sites (not to be confused with the dashboard of one site). You can access it by clicking on your site's name in the header.

As mentioned before the basic tag is quite easy to install, but we still recommend that the web master or creator of the site takes care of the installation when possible. If you are uncertain about how to get the tag installed on your site, contact your NetMonitor sales representative for advice or send an email to feedback@netmonitor.fi.

Here is a sample of the code: Please don't copy this one, read above where to find your unique tag

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://tracker5.netmonitor.fi/nmtracker.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
try {
	var netmonitor = new nmTracker(XXXX);
} catch(error){}

Installing the tag

Basics of the installation

Installing the tag requires that you can edit the source code of your website. If the site is built using a CMS or similar pre-made software, you will have to edit the source code of the templates that is uses.

  • If you have access to the HTML source code of your website, you just need to copy and paste it.
  • If your website was built by a webagency or a freelancer, you can ask them to install the tag for you.
  • In any case, we can provide you with help for the tag installation. Feel free to contact us at feedback@netmonitor.fi.

The tag should be placed on every page of the website, at bottom of the source code, near the </body> HTML tag. Please note that the tag prints an invisible image on the site, so it should not be placed in the HEAD part of the source code.
